Public libraries have come a long way and could surprise you if it has been awhile since your last visit. You can learn, socialize, volunteer, and seek a new hobby through various collections, resources, and programs. Stop by your local library to discover the new and exciting things they offer.

  1. Join the Library: It is free to join & free to borrow and membership is the most important way to support your library. Funders look for the statistics and library membership numbers are key for ongoing funding support. It is also very easy to join most libraries as often you only need to download the Library App to join and store your digital library card to use whenever you need.
  2. Visit your local branch: So you are not a reader? There is a wealth of entertaining programs, activities and makerspaces available to explore at your local library. You can also find some live music events that are free to attend. Into building with Lego? — then the Library Lego building club will be just the thing to attend and enjoy with the whole family. There is sure to be something to appeal so pop down for that visit & get in touch with your local library staff or signup to the library newsetter to be the first to find out what’s on.

3. Follow on Social Media: & feel free to get in touch. Has something the library has programmed or helped you with made a difference? Then let them know! Library staff love to hear from the people who connect with their library. Taking the time to give the gift of feedback is a wonderful way to support your library staff & help them grow & improve. Don’t forget you can also share library posts, or simply tag the library with related content from your life. We love to know how the library connects to you.

4. Explore the Collections: & don’t forget to borrow a book, download an eAudio, stream a classic movie, check out the eLearning courses on offer or get crafty with the eMags, books or the Library of things available. The more that is used, can attract more funding to buy more resources for your community to share.

5. Share the Love: get your friends involved. One of the best ways to expand the reach of your library is by sharing it with friends. You can ask friends to join the library, subscribe to the eNews. or come to a library program with you. It sounds so easy — but every time you share your love of the library it expands the reach and helps libraries to inspire more people to visit, join & borrow. Which in turn brings in more funding to grow your library & reach more in the community.
